Successful treatments for cancers and blood disorders vary greatly and may involve chemotherapy, oral medications, surgery, radiation therapy and bone marrow transplantation. Their specific actions, role and schedule in your overall care may be overwhelming and confusing to you and your loved ones. Treatment is often complex and requires coordination with others facilities and cancer specialists. Also, authorization for tests, procedures and treatment may be required from your insurer. All this takes time and may delay the start of therapy.
We serve as your advocates and seek to simplify and streamline the process as much as possible. Most newly diagnosed cases are presented to a large panel of cancer specialists (pathologists, radiologists, surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists) to quickly and collectively agree upon the best course of action.
Concurrently, all necessary information is submitted to your health insurer to expedite the authorization process. State-of-the-art treatment is then delivered at one facility (if possible based on your health insurance) and may entail chemotherapy as well as specialized surgery and radiation therapy which we will coordinate for you.
We consider many factors in devising your individualized treatment plan including the type of cancer, its stage and location, as well as your overall health and age. After reviewing the benefits and risks for each of the treatment options, you, your family and loved ones with the direction of your doctor will agree upon a treatment plan.
Throughout the course of your treatment we will strive to help you lead a normal life and schedule as much as possible. Of course, patient reactions to any treatment may vary. We believe the best way to prepare for a problem is to be informed, so we’ll address questions about side effects, treatment frequency, or medications.
